Unspoken Struggles
Chapter 3

“Thank you sir, 2 tickets for Monsters vs. Aliens at 11.40 p.m. and that will be in total 20 dollars”

“Looks like we have like 2 hours plus to kill, I think we go grab a bite first, I’m so hungry after a day’s work” Vernon mentioned.

Sitting at MacDonald’s, while grabbing a bite, they had a long heart to heart talk.

Apparently, Audrey was really upset due to relationship problems that she was experiencing – she just broke off with her boyfriend not long ago. Even though Audrey always put on a strong front in front of other people, she chose to keep everything that she had been going through and struggling to herself.

Vernon sat beside her, not saying any word, and just be her listening ear for that 2 hours.

Soon it was time for their movie to start.

The movie was great, both of them were laughing throughout the comedy. At least, it gave an opportunity for Audrey to lighten up her mood, and definitely they shared laughter together.

And soon, the movie ended, looking at his watch, Vernon realized it was already 2am already. Making the way through the back exit of the cinema, and the exit finally leading them back to shopping centre again.

They were thinking what they should do then. Suddenly, Audrey thought of an idea, “Hey, why not we catch another show like, now?” Audrey grinned as she suggested that to Vernon.

Vernon thought for a moment and smiled “Hey, movie marathon!? Why not, haha? But I think we better hurry, by this time the last show should be playing already.”

Both of them quickly ran to the ticket counter, looked at the information display, and realize the last show had just started like 15 minutes ago, and it is the other comedy that they wanted to watch very much. Well, such a coincidence that things just fell nicely in place. They looked at each other and grinned.

They quickly got their tickets and Vernon grabbed Audrey’s hand and pulled her along and ran for towards the cinema, as the show had already started.

And after another round of good laughter, the show ended around at 4 plus in the morning.
There is already no other mode of transport left to go home, other than taxi, and the sun is going to rise in like another 2 hours time. Making their way out of the empty shopping centre, they really had a great and crazy night together. But looks like it won’t be ending just like that, even though feeling tired, Vernon accompanied Audrey for breakfast at a 24 hours prata shop near Bugis.

They walked all the way there and ate breakfast while still happy talking about the 2 movies they watched just now, laughing at the jokes from the movies.

And soon they finished their breakfast and walked back to the MRT station in town, and sat right outside the MRT station, talking to each other while waiting for the 1st train to send Audrey home. They sat down there until soon, daybreak, as the sky slowly turn brighter, into a light shade of morning blue. Finally, it is 6.30 am.

They got on the first train and Vernon accompanied Audrey to send her home before taking another bus from Audrey’s area back to his home even though it is totally out of the way.

Finally a crazy and eventful night came to an end, well, there is a price to it, Vernon felt totally exhausted. But before turning in, Vernon thought back of all that happened over the night, and wore a smile before falling asleep. I guess the reward Vernon felt he received is incomparable to price he paid. It was priceless.
